The Steam Summer Sale 2026 runs through July 9, and while the AAA open-world crowd , indie roguelite fans , racing and driving players , and FPS fans have already gotten their roundups, the RPG and strategy side of the sale has some of the deepest cuts of the whole event tucked away — a JRPG down to $17.99, a CRPG at its lowest price ever, and a 4X strategy classic at 90% off.
Prices below are in USD, pulled from current Steam store listings as of July 3, 2026. Sale pricing is locked in for the full two-week event, so there's no need to rush before a timer runs out — but it's still worth double-checking the store page for the exact current price before buying.
Deep RPG cuts
| Game | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| $11.24 (was $44.99, 75% off) | One of the highest-rated CRPGs ever made, from the studio behind Baldur's Gate 3. Steam Deck Verified, with full controller and touchscreen menu support. | |
| $17.99 (was $59.99, 70% off) | The expanded rerelease of the demon-fusion JRPG, controller-native and a solid fit for handheld play, though text can run small on the Deck's screen. | |
| $20.99 (was $59.99, 65% off) | Steam Deck Verified. A full remake of the pivotal Persona entry with modernized visuals and combat — one of the safest handheld picks on this list. | |
| $27.99 (was $69.99, 60% off) | From the Persona team, a fantasy JRPG blending turn-based and real-time combat. Runs well on Deck, though the dense UI text benefits from sitting a bit closer to the screen. | |
| $4.99 (was $19.99, 75% off) | A sprawling, 25-class CRPG that lets you toggle between real-time-with-pause and full turn-based combat. Playable on Deck; the character sheet and inventory screens are easier to read in docked mode. | |
| $17.99 (was $59.99, 70% off) | Steam Deck Verified straight out of the box. If you want to push past the default settings, our Cyberpunk 2077 Eclipse Mod guide covers getting closer to 60 FPS on the Deck's hardware. |
Strategy and tactics picks
| Game | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| $34.99 (was $69.99, 50% off) | The newest entry in the 4X series. Playable on Deck, but late-game turns lean heavily on the CPU as the map fills up — worth knowing if you're on a Steam Machine, too. | |
| $5.99 (was $59.99, 90% off) | The deepest cut on this list, and still one of the best-optimized strategy games on Deck. Steam Deck Verified, with a touchscreen-friendly UI Firaxis built out specifically for handheld play. | |
| $19.99 (was $49.99, 60% off) | Steam Deck Verified. A turn-based tactical CRPG set in the 40K universe from the makers of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, with the same real-time-with-pause option available. | |
| $3.99 (was $39.99, 90% off) | A turn-based tactics RPG built around squad-based hex battles. Playable on Deck; expect to lower a few graphics settings to keep frame pacing smooth in the busiest fights. |
A note on Steam Deck and Steam Machine
The safest handheld picks here are the ones already carrying a Verified badge — Divinity: Original Sin 2, Persona 3 Reload, Cyberpunk 2077, Civilization VI, and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader all run well out of the box. The turn-based strategy picks, Civilization VII and King's Bounty II especially, lean more on CPU work once a match gets busy, which is the same profile our benchmarks of the Steam Machine's single-channel RAM configuration found costs real frames. If you're chasing higher resolution in the more GPU-bound picks on a Steam Machine, it's also worth turning on FSR 4, which recently landed on Proton Experimental and already works on that hardware.
Sale pricing holds until July 9 — after that, don't expect cuts this deep on this year's JRPGs or on Civilization VI again until the next seasonal event. If RPGs and strategy games aren't what you're after, we've also rounded up the sale's best big-budget deals , the best indie discounts , the best racing and driving deals , and the best FPS and shooter deals .
