Valve begins providing Steam Deck performance metrics to developers, using data from users who opted to share.
Valve has announced that it is providing performance metrics for the Steam Deck, aimed at developers. The goal is to make it easier to identify bottlenecks and runtime errors on a device with limited resources, especially with the arrival of Unreal Engine 5 in 2026.
The new metrics will only be displayed for titles that have opted in and that are shared by users who have agreed to provide performance data.
Who has access now
Internally, the first batch of data will be available only for games marked as Steam Deck Verified. In other words, for now, the practical utility is restricted to titles that already operate stably on the Deck.
What is not yet covered
- Valve states that the Variance metric is not yet considered, which may distort the perception of FPS stability if worse drops occur in specific parts of the game.
- It is not clear how changes to graphics settings or game modifications affect the collected data.
Next steps
The company says it plans to expand the feature to games classified as Steam Deck Playable in the future, as well as accelerate availability for other platforms in the Steam family.
In addition, Valve points out that the Steam Machine and Steam Frame should benefit from the tool when they hit the market, still in 2026.
This tool could guide developers to identify performance problems more accurately, provided that the variance factor is considered and configuration impacts remain transparent.

Conclusion: the novelty represents an important step for the Steam Deck ecosystem, but its effectiveness depends on how data variance and future expansions will be handled.
