Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, its remake of the 2013 pirate adventure, will carry the Steam Deck Verified badge from the moment it launches on July 9. The rating means Valve's own testing has cleared the game for out-of-the-box handheld play — controller glyphs, readable text, and a working default control scheme included.
What Ubisoft says
In a post on the game's Steam news hub, the studio framed the handheld work as a priority alongside the wider remake effort:
"In case you missed the headline, we're so excited to tell you that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is going to be Steam Deck Verified at launch! That's right, our teams have worked hard to make sure that the game is not only playable in as many places as possible but looks and plays great from PC to handheld."
Ubisoft also confirmed the remake adds ray tracing across all platforms and reworked dynamic weather, alongside a rebuilt version of the Caribbean setting. Steam Achievements and Steam Collectibles — trading cards, profile backgrounds, badges, and emoticons — will all be available from day one rather than patched in later, which hasn't always been the case with past Ubisoft Steam launches.
What to expect on Deck
A Verified rating guarantees the game boots and plays without manual tinkering, but it doesn't promise a specific frame rate — that's still down to the hardware and the settings you choose. Given Black Flag's open-water sailing and dense city crowds, a steady 30 FPS at Deck-friendly settings is the realistic target rather than anything higher, and reviewers who get early access ahead of the 9th will have the final word on how well it holds up.
Worth flagging for anyone deciding whether to pick this up on Deck or Steam Machine : the game requires Denuvo anti-tamper and a Ubisoft account to play, even offline after the first login. Neither is a Deck Verified disqualifier by itself, but both are worth knowing before you buy.
Pre-ordering ahead of the July 9 release nets the exclusive Blackbeard Crimson Pack cosmetic set. For Deck and Steam Machine owners who skipped the original, this is shaping up to be one of the more handheld-conscious big-budget releases Ubisoft has shipped in a while.
