Proton Experimental update fixes crashes in HELLDIVERS 2, Crimson Desert, and more

New Proton Experimental update brings fixes for HELLDIVERS 2, Crimson Desert, Rocket League, and more, with improvements affecting several games.

A new Proton Experimental update has been released recently, bringing fixes for various titles that run on the experimental layer.

Assassin's Creed Shadows and BattleBit Remastered are working again, while Crimson Desert and Resident Evil 2 should now display stable screens. Helldivers 2 and Rocket League have also received fixes, and The King-of-Fighters XIII Global Match should no longer present memory leaks.

The update should be downloaded automatically if you already have the experimental layer. Otherwise, search for Proton Experimental in the Steam store on your Steam Deck and install it.

Update changelog 5/7/26

• Now playable: Konkan Coast Pirate Solutions.
• Fixes Helldivers 2 not starting after a recent update — previously released via Proton Hotfix.
• Fixes Rocket League not starting with non-English locales after a recent update.
• Fixes Rocket League incorrectly detecting re-connected DualShock 4 and DualSense as an additional device.
• Fixes Proton 11 regressions:
  • Crimson Desert should no longer start in the corner of the screen when using GameScope.
  • BattleBit Remastered is playable again.
  • Assassin's Creed Shadows is playable again.
  • The King of Fighters XIII Global Match should no longer present memory leaks.
  • Resident Evil 2 should no longer present issues with low-resolution full-screen mode on high-resolution screens in certain configurations.
  • Arma 3 workshop mods should no longer update unnecessarily on every startup.
  • Terraria should no longer have lower performance than Proton 10.
