New phase for the Steam Controller

Valve is adjusting the Steam Controller acquisition process, seeking to reduce the purchasing rush and the actions of resellers. The change aims to make purchasing more predictable for those interested.

What changes starting tomorrow

Starting tomorrow at 10 AM PT, a reservation queue will be initiated for anyone who wants a Steam Controller. Reservations will be processed in the order they are made, and each buyer will receive an email with a 72-hour window to complete the purchase. If they do not finalize it within the deadline, the position passes to the next person in the queue.

Rules and eligibility

  • Limit of one unit per user during the reservation period.
  • Those who already own a Steam Controller will not be able to reserve another one at this time.
  • The account must be in good standing on Steam and must have made a purchase before April 27 of this year.

Stock replenishment will vary by region. Valve stated that reservations will begin to be fulfilled next week for the USA and Canada, with the United Kingdom, European Union, and Australia following in the coming weeks.

These changes aim to make the process more predictable and less subject to impulse buys, helping to facilitate access to the Steam Controller for those who really want to use it.

What do you think of these changes? Do you intend to join the reservation queue or do you prefer to sit out and wait for restocks? Leave your opinion in the comments.
