Valve confirms the development of the Steam Deck 2 and analyzes what might change in the evolution of the portable, with inspiration from the Steam Controller.
After the release of the Steam Deck in 2022, Valve indicated that annual updates would not be part of the package. Although the OLED model has arrived, the Steam Deck 2 remains without a concrete announcement date.
In an interview with IGN, programmer Pierre-Loup Griffais stated that the team is working hard on the next-generation handheld. He points out that, over the years, Valve has connected its hardware projects from the Steam Controller to the Steam Deck, and that the Deck 2 should capitalize on those lessons.
What is known so far is that the design of the Deck 2 should draw from these same references, with the Steam Controller possibly serving as the main inspiration for the product line.
Even without official details, there is an expectation of a significant leap compared to the original model and the OLED. The announcement of the Deck 2 should arrive when Valve feels ready to present this generational advancement.
In the meantime, fans should keep an eye out for an evolution that combines hardware innovations with improved usability, maintaining the portable feel that defines the Deck line.
