Steam Deck 2 is in development, Valve confirms: what to expect

Valve acknowledges the Steam Deck 2 is in development with an accelerated pace; the Steam Frame project is also on the agenda, without a set date.

Deck 2 in development, Valve guarantees accelerated pace

Valve has confirmed for the first time that the Steam Deck 2 is in development and that the pace of work is fast-tracked, according to a report with Pierre-Loup Griffais for IGN.

In this conversation, Griffais stated that the team is working on it at full speed and that everything Valve has done in recent months points towards the Steam Deck 2. He highlighted a line of continuity between the Steam Controller, Steam Machines, and the Deck, with learnings that fuel the innovations that are expected to arrive.

The executive also mentioned Steam Frame, another virtual reality project in development by Valve. The headset is expected to bring hardware innovations, but there is no timeline or public demonstration yet.

Although it is no surprise to see the Deck 2 in development, the market situation does not help: RAM shortages and price increases are expected to impact the launch. The expectation is that the new handheld will arrive only next year, while Valve has already postponed the Steam Machine indefinitely due to the memory crisis.
