Valve states that the Steam Deck 2 is in development; launch remains uncertain due to the current RAM market crisis.
Development confirmation
In an interview with IGN, programmer Pierre-Loup Griffais confirmed that the Steam Deck 2 is in development and work is in full swing.
Griffais states that everything Valve has done in recent months points to the Deck 2, tracing an evolutionary line that began with the Steam Controller and Steam Machines.
Steam Frame and other projects
The executive also commented on the Steam Frame, a new virtual reality project that is expected to bring updated hardware and features. The headset does not yet have a release date and has not been publicly unveiled.
There is no schedule released for the Steam Frame; development is going well, according to Griffais.
Current market and timeline
The arrival of the Steam Deck 2 is no surprise, but the launch will likely occur in a different scenario. The market is facing a shortage of RAM memory and price increases, factors that may influence timelines.
Valve signals that the Deck 2 may only arrive next year, subject to market conditions. The Steam Machine was also postponed indefinitely due to the RAM crisis.
