Death Stranding 2 on Steam Deck: patch 1.2 raises FPS and points to the future of portable gaming

Death Stranding 2 on Steam Deck receives patch 1.2 with improvements, reaching 30–35 fps in open worlds and 50 fps indoors, but with battery consumption.

The sequel Death Stranding 2 arrived on PC recently, ending a year of exclusivity on the PS5. Initially, performance ranged between 20 and 30 fps, which raised doubts about gameplay on portable devices like the Steam Deck.

Performance on Steam Deck with patch 1.2

With update 1.2 announced by the developers, the promise of improving performance on the Steam Deck has begun to be fulfilled. After re-downloading the 112 GB of the game, players began reporting averages between 30–35 fps in open areas and around 50 fps in less demanding interiors.

Although the title is made for larger screens, the experience on the Deck's 7.4-inch OLED display has been satisfactory for many users. Wes Fenlon's review praises the combination of mechanics with the intrinsic meaning of Hideo Kojima's work.

It is worth noting that power consumption remains high, with battery life reaching approximately an hour and a half of gameplay on average, which requires planning for longer sessions.

What this means for mobile PC gaming

The improvement demonstrates a trend: studios adjusting games for portable platforms may signal the future of the PC experience on increasingly smaller devices. Other titles, such as Resident Evil Requiem, have also already shown acceptable performance on the Steam Deck, indicating an increasingly consistent movement of optimization for this type of hardware.

With technical improvements combined with greater attention to detail in mobile environments, the path for PC gaming becomes more hybrid, combining power with mobility.
