Steam Deck stable update brings Steam Controller support
The latest stable Steam Deck Client update has arrived with an important new feature: Steam Controller support.
The second-gen Steam Controller was released on May 4th and sold out quickly, according to a rare social media post from Valve, which also confirmed that restocking is already underway.
This patch is smaller compared to the major update from the previous week. Those looking for newer versions can opt for the Beta or Preview channel in the device settings; the stable channel remains the default option for most.
What changed with the patch
- Steam Controller support
- New pop-up message when a controller connects or disconnects
- New setting to enable or disable controller battery notifications
- Improvements to the Add a Controller interface
- Power button menu items reorganized to reduce the risk of accidentally putting the device into sleep mode
- Fix: Network status icon in the header no longer becomes larger than expected
- Fix: Locked achievement sorting no longer places the rarest ones ahead of the less rare ones
The second-generation Steam Controller is ideal for living room gaming with the Steam Deck in docked mode. Valve states that support does not start from scratch, thanks to established user configs that translate from the Steam Deck to the Steam Controller.
In summary, the update reinforces continuity between platforms and offers more control options for those who prefer to play on the big screen.
