Leak points to the imminent launch of the Steam Controller 2026, with an unlisted unboxing video and a design inspired by the Steam Deck.
Context and signs of an imminent launch
The Steam Controller may be on its way to an imminent launch. Valve announced the Steam Controller along with the Steam Machine mini PC and the Steam Frame VR controller in November, with release forecasts for early 2026 that were delayed due to the RAM crisis, maintaining a vague window for 2026.
Recent signs of activity in the Steam backend suggest that the announcement may be close. According to leaker GabeFollower on X, Valve allegedly uploaded an unlisted unboxing video, with the code steam_controller_unboxing_2026, on the store page on April 20. The play button would allow opening the video in the browser.
- Evidence points to the possibility of a release date announcement soon.
- It is unclear whether the Steam Machine would receive its release date along with the Steam Controller or if the devices would be shipped separately.
Design and specifications in focus
The new Steam Controller maintains a layout similar to the Steam Deck, with two trackpads below two analog sticks equipped with TMR technology, offering sensitivity similar to a mouse for use with the Steam Machine or PC.
In addition, there are four remappable back paddles for controller or keyboard inputs, increasing the user's configuration options.
As for the price, Valve has not released any figures yet. More information is expected at the release date announcement.
