Steam Deck beta update brings new feedback options and anonymous FPS data to make verification more accurate, in addition to usability improvements.
Steam Deck verification decides how games are classified for the portable before purchase, with labels like Verified, Playable, Unsupported, and Unknown, evaluated based on performance, controls, text legibility, and overall experience.
Over time, users pointed out that some titles labeled as Verified still exhibited crashes, lower-than-expected performance, or control issues. Borderlands 4 is cited as a recent example, and Valve appears to be acting to fix these shortcomings.
Steam Deck beta update brings new feedback options and FPS data
The beta update patch notes indicate changes to how player feedback is collected.
- The option to send framerate data anonymously was added, without linking the information to the player's account and only tied to the type of hardware used.
- When submitting feedback where there is a discrepancy with the Deck Verified rating, the system now requests a reason; providing the reason is optional.
- The ability to share performance data was also introduced to help make compatibility ratings more accurate.
The implementation is in beta stage and currently focuses on devices running SteamOS.
More improvements and news for hardware reviews
Besides verification, the update brings usability improvements, such as displaying larger resolution capsule images in the Recent Games carousel when online.
Several bugs were also fixed, including installation issues in large libraries, controller input focus problems, and flickering in game mode.
A PC specifications option was also added for reviews, making it clear what hardware was used by the review author. This helps readers judge performance and optimization based on the equipment.
It is worth remembering that Valve had already implemented a way to find user reviews from the Steam Deck in the past, in 2024.
