Official Steam support arrives in Unity

During the product update presented at GDC, Unity revealed that it will offer official support for Steam, including Steam Deck and Steam Machine. James Stone, Technical Product Director for Platforms, explained that, until now, developers needed to adapt their games created with Unity for Valve's store on their own. With the new integrated native toolkit, this process becomes simpler and faster.

Native improvements to the Linux runtime

In addition, Unity will introduce specific enhancements to the Linux runtime, with gains in native performance and reduced dependency on Proton to run Windows games.

For more details, the company highlighted an official broadcast covering the engine's key updates.

Now, with this integration, what are your expectations? Do you believe this speeds up the arrival of games on Steam without depending so much on Proton? Leave your opinion in the comments.
