Steam Machine establishes verification standard: 1080p/30fps and automatic compatibility with the Steam Deck; launch expected in 2026.
Steam Machine Verification Rules
The Steam Machine, just like the Steam Deck, will have a verification badge for games proven to run with optimal performance. Valve confirmed the requirements to obtain this badge.
Those who already have the badge on the Steam Deck will have acquired rights: games verified on the Deck will be automatically verified on the Steam Machine.
Performance goals for unverified titles are still considered reasonable, especially since the Steam Machine is pointed to have 6x the performance of the Steam Deck.
- 1080p at 30fps: games must maintain 30 frames per second at 1080p resolution.
- Input expectations: The Steam Machine will maintain the same input references as the Steam Deck and will require an updated API to detect the hardware.
Frame Verification (Steam Frame Verified)
To obtain the Steam Frame Verified badge, games must be entirely playable with Steam Frame controllers. Furthermore, standalone VR titles will need to reach 90fps, while standalone 2D games must reach 30fps at a resolution of 1280 x 720.
Valve has not confirmed the exact launch date for the Steam Machine, but says it expects the launch in 2026, after acknowledging a delay in February.
