Steam beta update adds attaching hardware to reviews and improves Deck Verified feedback, with fixes for Deck/OS, Linux, streaming, and more.
Steam Beta brings hardware details to reviews
Valve has released a new beta update for Steam Desktop and for Steam Deck/SteamOS that allows attaching hardware details to game reviews. Furthermore, the update introduces an option to anonymously collect framerate data, focusing on game compatibility and platform improvement. The feature is not automatic: it is necessary to save the hardware data to your Steam account.
Main changes for PC
- Option to attach hardware specifications when writing or updating a review on a game's store page.
- New option to provide anonymized framerate data, linked to hardware type, to help understand game compatibility. The feature is in beta, focusing on devices running SteamOS.
- Layout and navigation improvements to Steam Families on desktop, Deck, and mobile devices.
- Fix in streaming to prevent downloads from being limited after a broadcast ends.
- On Linux, a fix for Proton that could cause games to appear invalid on systems with large libraries in offline mode.
- On Steam Deck, when submitting feedback about Deck Verified, if you disagree, the reason will now be requested (the explanation is optional).
Specifically for Steam Deck/SteamOS
- Displays the highest resolution cover image available for the game in the Recent Games carousel when online.
- Fixes an issue where the selected item would quickly gain and lose focus, which could prevent controller input.
- Fixes crashes that could prevent the installation of some games with large libraries.
- Fixes the application of the offline keyboard theme.
- Fixes the game mode footer from flickering or disappearing.
When opening to play on Steam Deck/SteamOS, you will see a new information screen. The setting is also located in the Data and Navigation footer of the Steam account.
These changes show Valve's commitment to making Steam more robust, including the use of framerate data and more detailed feedback for Deck Verified. The community expects fewer complaints about seeing inappropriate Deck Verified content, and the strategy is also relevant for when the Steam Machine is launched.
