ROG Xbox Ally sales stall; the Steam Deck remains the leader among handhelds, with scarce memory and availability influencing prices.
Handheld Market: Steam Deck Still Dominates
After a promising launch, ROG Xbox Ally sales have lost momentum. According to Matt Piscatella, an analyst at Circana, the Steam Deck continues to be the most popular among handhelds.
Memory scarcity can affect both Linux and Windows devices, with the possibility of price adjustments in the short term.
Recent Performance and Expectations
At the October launch, the Ally X, the more expensive model, sold out in some regions, while the more affordable version had more stable stock. Asus even projected up to $160 million in sales in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Competition and Availability
Besides the Steam Deck, the Lenovo Legion Go and the MSI Claw line raise the competition. Availability continues to be a challenge for Valve, with storage and memory shortages impacting the Deck OLED; the LCD was discontinued at the end of 2025.
Costs and Component Inflation
Due to the dependency on high-performance components, there may be new price increases for the Ally. Recently, stores in Japan have already raised the price of the Ryzen Z2 Extreme by more than 20%.
Summary: the Steam Deck remains dominant; the Ally is still seeking traction amidst memory and availability bottlenecks.
