Quick analysis of Crimson Desert on Steam Deck and ROG Ally, with official performance data for handhelds and compatibility status.
With Crimson Desert arriving, handheld fans want to know if the game runs on Steam Deck or ROG Ally. Pearl Abyss revealed performance targets for portable devices, leaving the scenario with more clues, but also some uncertainties.
Crimson Desert on ROG Ally
- ROG Ally (base model): 720p Performance mode with FSR 3 Frame Generation targeting 40 FPS; another mode uses 1080p upscale from 720p with FSR 3 Super Resolution and Frame Generation targeting 60 FPS.
- ROG Ally X: Balanced mode targeting 40 FPS at 1080p upscaled from 720p, or Quality at native 1080p targeting 30 FPS.
Pearl Abyss also warns that these numbers were obtained with the device plugged into power and Turbo Mode active, so performance when wireless may vary.
Crimson Desert on Steam Deck
Currently, the game is coming to Steam, but there is no official confirmation of compatibility by Steam Deck, and the store page marks the status as Unknown.
Since the ROG Ally has hardware close to the Steam Deck, it is likely to run on lower settings, with 720p in Performance mode using FSR 3 Frame Generation, targeting around 40 FPS.
However, until Valve confirms the compatibility seal or practical tests emerge, there is no guarantee.
