What's new in Proton 11

Valve has released version 11.0 Beta of Proton, which has been entirely rebased on Wine 11. The central change is the integration with Wine 11, bringing NTSync support to the Linux kernel. This reduces CPU overhead and improves frame-time consistency, especially in modern titles that rely on multi-threading.

More games, fewer issues

The update expands the library of compatible games. Several titles that previously relied on Proton Experimental now run on the main branch. Examples cited include Gothic 1 Classic, Deadly Premonition, Metal Gear Survive, Warhammer: Vermintide 2, as well as entries from the Resident Evil and Dino Crisis series.

Launcher and compatibility improvements

Launcher fixes have been applied, focusing on EA, Rockstar, and REDLauncher titles. Stability has increased for modern titles and compatibility for older games has also been strengthened.

DXVK and VKD3D-Proton updated

Proton 11.0 Beta brings DXVK 2.78 and updates VKD3D-Proton components to expand compatibility for games ranging from DX9 to DX12.

To understand the changes, the release notes describe the highlights of the update, without relying on external sources.
