Xeno Arena update delayed on Switch 2 and Steam Deck due to memory limits

No Man's Sky has received the major Xeno Arena update, which adds a creature battle system similar to Pokémon, fulfilling community requests from nearly two years ago. Although it arrived on PC and most platforms on April 8, the version for portable devices is arriving on the Switch 2 with a delay.

According to Hello Games engineer Martin Griffiths, porting patches to mobile platforms requires a disproportionate amount of development time. We spend 2-3x more time making the updates work smoothly on these devices, he explained, emphasizing the challenge of maintaining consistency between PC, Mac, and other consoles.

Despite the delay, Griffiths states that it is rewarding to overcome the "impossible memory limits" to keep No Man's Sky in constant growth, allowing more players to enjoy the new features.

Impact for players and porting

  • The Xeno Arena update was released on PC and most platforms on April 8
  • The version for Switch 2 and Steam Deck requires extra engineering time, delaying its arrival
  • The team seeks to maintain the cross-platform experience without compromising performance or memory

Although the game had a troubled launch in 2016, the developers have been delivering updates with greater frequency, and many fans are already enjoying the new features, including the battle possibilities that appear in virtual reality content for those testing the content.

What is your opinion on this wait? Do you prefer faster patches, even with less testing time, or updates that arrive with guaranteed quality, even if delayed? Leave your comment below.
