SteamInputDB adds binding preview: see layouts on different controllers before choosing.
One of the features that most attracts Steam fans is Steam Input, which allows mapping every input of a controller to in-game actions. SteamInputDB, an open-source site created by Peter Repukat (Alia5), aggregates community layouts into a practical and visually appealing search database.
New feature: layout preview
It is now possible to see, within the Steam framework itself, the image of the controller with all the defined bindings. Furthermore, you can manually change the controller type to see how it looks on your device, whether it's a PS5 DualSense, Xbox One, DualShock 4, or even the upcoming Steam Controller.
This is one of the most relevant changes since the tool was created: the preview opens the door to quickly evaluate whether a layout suits the desired game, without leaving the page.
What this means for users
This improvement makes it easier to find community-created layouts, helping those planning to acquire Valve hardware who want to confirm the compatibility of certain bindings before testing the game.
About the project
SteamInputDB is collaboratively maintained and is still evolving, with the creator mentioning the need to fix edge cases and refine the experience.
The project is spearheaded by Peter Repukat (Alia5), promoting a useful tool for players exploring non-native bindings.
