Can Crimson Desert run on handhelds? See the official performance targets for ROG Ally/ROG Ally X and the possibilities on Steam Deck.
With Crimson Desert almost here, handheld gaming fans will want to know if the title runs on the Steam Deck or the ROG Ally. Pearl Abyss has disclosed performance targets for handhelds, including the ROG Ally and ROG Ally X, and the outlook is a bit mixed.
Does it run on ROG Ally?
Pearl Abyss published performance targets for the ROG Ally and the X model, which represents additional confidence in portable gameplay.
- Performance Mode at 720p: with FSR 3 Frame Generation, targeting 40 FPS.
- Mode with 1080p upscaling from 720p: using FSR 3 Super Resolution + Frame Generation, targeting 60 FPS.
- ROG Ally X: offers a balance with 40 FPS at 1080p upscaled from 720p (Balanced), or 30 FPS at native 1080p (Quality).
Note: these numbers were measured with the device plugged in and Turbo Mode active, which may impact performance when running on battery power.
What about the Steam Deck?
Currently, Crimson Desert is coming to Steam, but it does not yet have the Steam Deck Verified label and the store page lists compatibility as Unknown.
Since the base ROG Ally is close to the Steam Deck, it is reasonable to assume that the game might run, possibly on the lowest settings, with a 720p Performance mode using FSR 3 Frame Generation aiming to maintain around 40 FPS.
However, until Valve officially confirms it or there are practical tests, it is not possible to guarantee this performance with certainty.
If you prefer to play in portable format, stay tuned: the compatibility rating is still open and may change with updates.
