Review of Minishoot Adventures on Switch 2, highlighting agile gameplay, portability, and loading times.
A Zelda-like with a twin-stick twist
At the beginning of 2024, Minishoot’ Adventures emerged on Steam Deck and quickly won fans by combining the exploration of a Zelda-like with a convincing twin-stick shooter. Without fanfare, the game arrived on several platforms, including the Switch 2, maintaining a proposal perfect for those who play on the go.
In this review, I focused on the Switch 2 version, with quick references to the Switch OLED and Xbox Series X just for context.
Agile gameplay, well-dosed puzzles
The proposal mixes exploration, twin-stick shooting, light puzzles, and memorable boss battles. The control response is immediate, which makes the title captivating even for those who are not fans of shmups. When revisiting it on the Switch 2, the experience remains polished, with a rhythm of well-dosed upgrades and puzzles that avoid repetition.
Portability that shines, with one caveat
In portable mode, the game works exceptionally well and is perfect for quick sessions during commutes. The main point for improvement is the load times: the initial loading is long, and the loading between areas can interrupt immersion on the Switch 2.
Those playing on other platforms will see faster loading, but the proposition of playing on the go remains the strong point. The developers are already aware of the issue and should address it in future updates.
Accessibility and difficulty options
Minishoot’ Adventures offers several difficulty options, including modes that simplify combat and adjust game speed for those who prefer only to explore without worrying about intense action.
It is also possible to disable screen shake and flicker effects, making the experience more accessible for different play styles.
Conclusion
For fans of Zelda-likes and shmups, this is an essential title. On the Switch 2, it delivers a solid portable experience, with the only downside being the loading time—something that may improve with future updates.
I was so satisfied that I am already thinking of revisiting it on PS5 for new sessions in the future. Version tested: Nintendo Switch 2. Review copy provided by Seaven Studio.
