Valve Postpones Steam Machine to 2026 and Opens Possibility of 2027?

Valve's 2026 roadmap for Steam Machine becomes uncertain, with memory and storage pressuring the launch of three devices in the Steam ecosystem.

2026 Plan Becomes Uncertain

Valve's Year in Review casts a shadow over its 2026 hardware roadmap. The effort is to expand the Steam ecosystem with three devices, but the current narrative reflects the reality of global supply chains escalating the launch challenge.

Initially, Valve stated that the goal of launching the three products in the first half of 2025 remained valid, even while acknowledging that memory and storage were complicating pricing plans.

In the latest update, the company removed that specific deadline and started using the expression we expect to launch in 2026, citing market volatility in components. This opens room for a push to 2027 if conditions do not improve.

The industry observes that RAM scarcity is reshaping the PC landscape. HP even mentioned that memory now accounts for about a third of the total cost of a PC build.

Valve faces a challenge on two fronts:

  • The Steam Deck: Maintaining stock is under pressure due to the same component restrictions affecting new launches.
  • New Projects: Seeking high-performance memory for three devices — Steam Machine, Controller, and Frame — adds complexity to the supply chain.

Despite the cautious tone, Valve has not updated its official launch FAQ. This suggests that internally, the outlook is more conservative, but the company has not confirmed a cancellation of a 2026 launch.

For now, the message to the Steam community is that Valve is at the mercy of the global semiconductor market. Until memory and storage stabilize and prices balance out, the next generation of Steam hardware remains a moving target.

Quick Summary: three devices on the radar, but the horizon depends on external factors that are still outside Valve's control.

Leave in the comments: do you think 2026 is feasible or are you already preparing for 2027? What impact will this have on your Steam usage and the ecosystem?
